Beginner Koryu Ikebana

Discover the traditional Japanese art of ikebana, where seasonal flowers, branches, and grasses come together in thoughtful, balanced arrangements. This two-hour class introduces you to the fundamentals of free-style ikebana through the Koryu School, a technique with over 250 years of history in Japan. You'll learn the core design principles and aesthetic philosophy behind this peaceful art form, including how the three main branches symbolize balance and harmony between nature and humanity. By the end of the session, you'll have created your own unique arrangement to take home. All materials are provided, though you'll need to bring sharp floral snips. The class is taught by Rie Russo, who holds a first-degree teaching certificate and has been practicing ikebana since childhood. Registration is required through the Garden's website. Cost is $55 for Garden members and $69 for non-members.
