Beginning Birding

Learn the fundamentals of birdwatching from Barb and Buz Sawyer, seasoned birders who've been spotting birds since childhood. This three-hour session covers practical topics including where to find birds, what gear to bring, seasonal timing, and identification techniques. You'll also discover how to support local bird populations through conservation efforts and explore the helpful apps now available to enhance your birding experience. The morning combines indoor instruction with hands-on exploration in the Garden itself (weather permitting), so you'll have a chance to spot actual birds while learning. The class touches on bird habitat, behavior, diet, and equipment recommendations. Bring binoculars if you own them—they're helpful but not required. Pre-registration is necessary.
