Botany for Botanical Illustration: Fungi

Botany for Botanical Illustration: Fungi in Richmond

Get an up-close look at fungi as subjects for artistic study in this two-session class led by botanist John Hayden and botanical illustrator Sheila Hayden. The course begins with morning instruction on fungal structure—examining what makes these organisms unique and learning the scientific terms used to describe them. After lunch, you'll move into the illustration studio to create graphite drawings based on the morning's observations, focusing on capturing fine details and proper labeling. This class is designed for adults who've already completed Introduction to Botanical Drawing II. You'll need to bring your own supplies (a detailed list will be provided). Registration costs $162 for Garden members and $203 for non-members, and you'll receive 10 hours of elective credit toward the Botanical Illustration Certificate Program if you're pursuing that path. The Garden welcomes learners of all abilities and offers accommodations upon request—just contact them ahead of time to discuss your needs.
