Butterfly Pinning 101

Interested in learning a unique preservation technique? This hands-on workshop teaches the fundamentals of butterfly pinning, an artful method for displaying these beautiful insects. You'll work through each stage of the process, starting with rehydration and moving through proper pinning methods. The class blends entomology, art, and natural history in an approachable way that welcomes both newcomers and those with some experience. All supplies are included, and you'll take home your own preserved butterfly ready to display, plus the skills to continue this hobby independently. The butterflies used are ethically and sustainably sourced. The two-hour session wraps up with a special guided tour of the Butterflies Bloom exhibit led by instructor Clara Aus, the Garden's Butterfly Exhibit Manager. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the outdoors, since you'll be heading outside to see the live butterfly garden. Registration is required ahead of time through the Garden's website. Pricing is $54 for members and $68 for non-members.
