Butterfly Pinning 102: Common Morpho
Butterfly Pinning 102: Common Morpho in Richmond
Join lepidopterist Clara Aus for a two-hour hands-on workshop exploring one of nature's most striking butterflies. You'll start by learning about the Common Morpho's life cycle, anatomy, and those famous iridescent blue wings before moving into the practical work. Clara will walk you through each step of the pinning process, including how to prepare specimens and position their wings beautifully.
All the butterflies used in this class come from the Butterflies Bloom exhibit and have completed their natural lifespan, so you're honoring these insects while preserving their beauty. You'll leave with a complete shadowbox kit and the tools you need to pin more specimens at home. The workshop includes a visit to the exhibit itself, so wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Registration is required; membership pricing is $53, and non-member pricing is $66. If you need any accommodations to participate, reach out to the Garden ahead of time.
