Container Gardening with Bulbs in Richmond

Spend your fall morning learning how to plan and plant a spring bulb display that will bloom for weeks—perfect if you're short on outdoor space. Led by Lauren Hwang-Finkelman, the Living Collections Manager at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, you'll start with an indoor lesson covering the basics of spring-blooming bulbs like daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, and grape-hyacinths. You'll discover what makes a true bulb and explore some lesser-known varieties that do well in our region. After the classroom portion, you'll head to the garden's greenhouse to create your own layered bulb container to take home. Mix and match different bulb combinations to design a springtime display that suits your style. Wear comfortable closed-toed shoes and bring gardening gloves for the hands-on work. Seating is available upon request. Registration is required and costs $72 for members or $90 for non-members. If you need any accommodations to participate, reach out to the garden ahead of time and they'll do their best to help.
