Exploring the Mystery of Bird Migration

Your family can learn about one of nature's most fascinating phenomena at this garden program. Barb and Buz Sawyer, experienced birders with decades of knowledge, will share their insights into why birds migrate, where they travel, and how they navigate journeys spanning thousands of miles. You'll discover how some birds fly nonstop for nearly 2,500 miles to reach their winter homes, often at altitudes exceeding 20,000 feet. The session will also touch on migration mysteries that scientists are still working to understand. The program combines indoor classroom time with outdoor exploration in the Garden, so dress accordingly for weather. You'll have the chance to spot migrating birds and year-round residents while learning which plants and trees support birds during their travels. Bring binoculars if you have them. Registration is required in advance on the Garden's website. Cost is $28 for members and $34 for non-members.
