Fall in the Kitchen Garden
Seasonal garden event at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden celebrating fall harvest.
As grocery costs climb, more families are discovering the rewards of growing their own food right at home. Kitchen gardens are perfect for this—they're smaller and more manageable than traditional vegetable plots, easier to protect from deer and wildlife, and can be genuinely beautiful to look at. In this two-hour class, instructor Mark Ragland walks you through the practical steps of keeping your garden thriving through the harvest season, planting cool-weather crops for fall, and preparing beds for winter rest.
Mark brings real expertise to the table. He's been gardening since age 12, served as chairman of the Virginia Commonwealth Unit of the Herb Society of America, and has had his own southern Virginia gardens featured on PBS and in Country Gardens magazine. You'll leave with tips for planning next year's garden too. Registration is required ahead of time through the garden's website. Membership costs $32 for members and $40 for non-members. If you need any accessibility accommodations to participate, the garden welcomes requests—just reach out to them directly before the class.
