Introduction to Botanical Drawing III

This is the third course in an introductory botanical drawing series offered at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. You'll build on skills from Parts I and II while diving deeper into observational techniques, light study, and shading. The course focuses on translating what you see in nature onto paper—exploring how light direction and color temperature affect depth and realism, refining graphite techniques, and creating color studies with colored pencils. You'll work with live specimens provided by instructors and engage in group feedback sessions designed to support your growth as an artist. The class meets over four Thursday sessions and is limited to just twelve participants, creating an intimate learning environment. You'll need to bring your own supplies (a detailed list is provided), plan for about five-plus hours of homework weekly, and have completed Botanical Drawing I and II beforehand. Cost is $289 for Garden members and $356 for non-members. Pre-registration through the Garden's website is required.
