Native Plants for Beginners in Richmond

This class offers a practical introduction to growing native Virginia perennials in your own garden. Led by Kaity Bevenour, owner of Parallel Nursery and an ecological horticulturalist, you'll learn which native plants work well in home landscapes and discover the benefits they offer both your garden and the environment. The session covers a range of native flowers, grasses, and sedges, plus helpful guidance on managing aggressive species and deciding between traditional native plants and cultivated varieties. The two-hour program includes a classroom portion followed by a short walk through the Morton Native Garden to see these plants thriving in a real garden setting. Best of all, you'll take home six native plant plugs in a customizable mix-and-match pack from Parallel Nursery. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for outdoor conditions. Registration is required in advance through the Garden's website. Membership costs $59; non-member admission is $74. If you need accessibility accommodations to participate, contact the Garden at [email protected] or 804-262-9887 x328.
