Post-Harvest Handling of Veggies: Washing, Curing, and Storing

Post-Harvest Handling of Veggies: Washing, Curing, and Storing in Richmond

Ready to make the most of your garden harvest? This workshop tackles the practical side of bringing vegetables from garden to table. You'll learn when to pick your produce and how to properly care for it once it comes in. The session covers the specific techniques different vegetables need—greens, winter squash, and tomatoes each have their own rules for washing and preparing. You'll also explore how to cure vegetables, build simple storage solutions, and create ideal conditions to keep your bounty fresh longer. The class runs two hours and is led by Dea Keen, an Assistant Horticulturalist at Lewis Ginter who brings 15 years of farming experience in the Mid-Atlantic region. All materials are provided, so you just need to show up ready to learn. Registration is required and costs $32 for members or $40 for non-members. If you need accessibility support or accommodations to participate, the Garden welcomes your request—just reach out beforehand to make arrangements.
