Read to Rover

Beginning readers boost confidence reading aloud to therapy dogs at the library.

Is your early reader feeling nervous about reading aloud? This program pairs children in kindergarten through second grade with trained therapy dogs, creating a calm, supportive environment for practicing their skills. Kids take turns reading to the dogs, who are wonderful listeners without judgment. Many children find this approach builds their confidence and makes reading feel less intimidating. Space fills up quickly, so registration is essential. To sign up, call the Rockville Branch at 804-749-3146 or visit the library in person. The staff can answer any questions and get your child enrolled in this popular program that combines literacy practice with the comfort of spending time with gentle animal friends.
