The Real Story of the First Thanksgiving

The Real Story of the First Thanksgiving

All-ages presentation revealing the true history of the first Thanksgiving at Pamunkey Regional Library.

Discover a lesser-known chapter of American history in this engaging presentation for the whole family. Graham Woodlief, president of the Virginia Thanksgiving Festival and a direct descendant of Captain John Woodlief, shares the true account of the first official English-speaking Thanksgiving. Dating back to 1619—a full year before the Pilgrims—this celebration unfolded when settlers aboard the Good Ship Margaret arrived safely in Virginia at Berkeley Hundred after a challenging Atlantic crossing. Through an informative and entertaining program, you'll learn about the early settlers' experiences at what is now Berkeley Plantation and the events that led to this pivotal moment in colonial history. This program welcomes all ages, making it a great opportunity for families to explore this often-overlooked piece of our past together.
