VCU Living Lab Research Demos – Downtown

Hands-on research demos from VCU at the Children's Museum of Richmond—explore science in action.

VCU psychology students will be on the museum floor sharing hands-on demonstrations of their research, led by Dr. Marcia Winter as part of the National Living Lab network. Your family can stop by to watch the demos and learn how researchers study child development and learning. If you're interested, you can also participate in a one-on-one live study focusing on children's pre-writing skills, conducted by Dr. Virginia Chu from VCU's Department of Occupational Therapy—though this participation is optional and happens with one family at a time. This isn't a typical museum activity, so it's best suited for families curious about the research process and willing to engage in a more focused, observational way. Children can learn by watching or by taking part in the actual study if your family consents. Sessions happen on multiple days and times throughout the week, giving you flexibility to visit when it works best for your schedule.
